LAHORE: The Pakistan Super League (PSL) officially announced on Monday that Australian cricketer Matthew Short has signed up for the highly anticipated player draft for the league’s 10th edition.
The announcement was made on the league's social media handles with a banner and a caption stating, "Australian explosive batter Matthew Short enters the HBL PSL Draft."
The 29-year-old brings a wealth of experience to the T20 format, having represented his national team in 14 T20I matches.
In these appearances, he has scored 293 runs at an impressive strike rate of 163.68, including one half-century.
Short has also showcased his skills in various franchise leagues around the world, including Australia’s Big Bash League (BBL), The Hundred, Major League Cricket (MLC), and the Indian Premier League (IPL).
In the BBL, Short has played 82 matches, amassing 2,033 runs at a strike rate of 140.69, including 14 fifties and one century. He is currently representing the Adelaide Strikers in this year’s BBL edition.
Notably, Short is the fourth Australian and the 19th overall foreign player to register for the PSL 10 draft, which will take place in Balochistan for the first time. Gwadar is set to host the landmark event on January 11, 2025.
The pick order for the player draft has also been announced, with two-time champions Lahore Qalandars making the first pick in the opening round of the platinum category, followed by arch-rivals Karachi Kings.
2019 champions Quetta Gladiators will make the third pick, while Peshawar Zalmi will have the fourth.
Last season’s runners-up, Sultans, and reigning champions United will make the fifth and sixth picks, respectively.
